Halloween is the one night of the year when wearing a mask is part of the fun. But what about the invisible masks we wear every day?
The “I’m fine” mask when we’re actually overwhelmed.
The “people-pleaser” mask when we say yes but really want to say no.
The “I’ve got everything under control” mask when we’re barely keeping up.
Sometimes these masks help us navigate uncomfortable situations, avoid conflict, or protect ourselves emotionally. But wearing them all the time can become exhausting.
Here’s a little Halloween reminder: You can be kind without saying yes to everything. You can belong without pretending to be someone you’re not.
Not every mask is unhealthy. Sometimes we need privacy, boundaries, or a little emotional protection. The goal isn’t to reveal everything to everyone. It’s having the freedom to decide when, where, and with whom we feel comfortable being ourselves.
So tonight, enjoy the costumes, embrace the creativity, and have some fun.
Wear your Halloween mask proudly, but remember that the most important mask is the one you can safely take off.
